Notes from today... -Nick Fanuzzi is transferring -20 True Freshmen were listed on the depth chart (only Ivan Matchett, Robert Lester, Glenn Harbin, Wesley Neighbors and Michael Williams were not listed) -2 True Freshmen are listed on the first team as starters...Julio Jones and Dont'a Hightower. -Out of the starting 24 (includes a FB, just one TE and the 3-4 defense)...there are... 6 Srs 14 Jrs 2 Sos 0 Redshirt Fr 2 True Fr Interesting that only 4 starters are Nick Saban players. That will change soon but some may have thought it would have been heavier weighted towards his players.

Tide Fall Practice - Friday, August 15
Friday 08-15-2008 10:44pm CT
The Tide went through the final practice Friday before Saturday's second and last scrimmage of the preseason.
-Charlie Higginbotham was in a black non-contact jersey, breaking the amazing string of 3 consecutive days without a player in a black jersey. Richard Lee from The Tuscaloosa News said that he stretched with the team and then worked on the exercise bike. His injury isn't known just yet.
-Don'ta Hightower worked in the same group as Rolando McClain, Brandon Fanney and Eryk Anders. Nick Saban has said that they are moving guys around and looking at players with different groups in different combinations, so I wouldn't make much of this group just yet. What Saban says is true. We've seen a lot of combinations in just the short viewing period, so you know there's a lot more happening during the other hour and 40 minutes each day.
Check back after the scrimmage and after we talk to Nick Saban. I'll have a report and hopefully some stats for you. Thanks!
Tide Fall Practice - Thursday, August 14
Friday 08-15-2008 10:33pm CT
The Tide had one afternoon practice. For the 3rd day in a row, there were no players in black non-contact jerseys. Cecil Hurt from the Tuscaloosa News joined us after practice. He said there was nothing else noteworthy from the viewing session. Here are some thoughts from camp...
-Brandon Fanney, in that Jack role, does the drills we see with the LBs rather than the DLs.
-Don't be concerned about BJ Scott. I know Nick Saban hasn't mentioned him much by name but he's working hard and having a good camp. He'll play and make an impact, even if he doesn't start the first play of the first game. Depending on how they line-up, I wouldn't rule that out either at this point.
Tide Fall Practice - Wednesday, August 13 (Evening)
Friday 08-15-2008 10:27pm CT
The story continues to be the lack of injuries on this team. No non-QBs were in black non-contact jerseys. Here are some observations from the back half of the final two-a-days of fall camp...
-More multi-unit drills with the LBs and secondary working together on coverages and responsibilities.
-Non Freshmen camp surprises by their work with higher units than most would have thought (at least during different periods of the media viewing periods)...LB Eryk Anders (San Antonio), LB Michael DeJohn (Hoover), LB Charlie Higginbotham (Mountain Brook), DB Tyrone King (Birmingham/Grambling State), OL Brad Pounds (Boaz), OL Scott Deaton (Oak Mountain)
Tide Fall Practice - Wednesday, August 13 (Morning)
Wednesday 08-13-2008 11:37am CT
Under the clouds, the team was back outside for the last of two-a-days. Here are my observations.
- Terrance Cody continues to impress. The first day or two, he had to feel his way through but he has really come on. His quick feet, agility, power, size and athletic ability is impressive. He has skills of a much smaller man yet still being very hard to block. The more you see him, the more you like him.
- Marcel Dareus is going to play. It's going to be hard to keep this guy off the field. He's a natural, with a great size, quickness combo. He does all his drills properly. He has an excellent motor ane he just looks the part.
- Mike McCoy has made a huge improvement. He is now a confident and complete WR and a leader. Looks like a go-to guy and Nick Saban has complimented him accordingly.
- Brad Smelley was back at practice
